Early spring engagement session at Harry S. Moss Park

Wedding photography is a huge responsibility (that I don’t take lightly). The experience doesn’t start and end on a wedding day, but unfolds over several months. Engagement sessions are pivotal in that.

Engagement sessions are usually the first time we all meet in person. The nerves start lessening, the excitement starts building, we get to know each other over very well the course of a session, and it’s honestly a huge trust building moment! So when couples like Kilani and Jennie get to see how magical their engagement photos turn out, it helps them feel more at peace knowing that their wedding memories are in good hands.

Guiding couples in a way that captures authentic moments is what I’m all about, so when I read testimonials like Kilani’s I am over the moon! Here’s what she had to say about her engagement session:

“Krystal has a special way of not only taking amazing pictures but a way of capturing true love on film. She made things so easy for us that we didn’t have that awkward stage when Krystal picked up the camera to shoot. She took a gentle lead while Jennie and I just made our love story come to life. Krystal was able to capture the special moments and tell a love story through her photography. I can’t wait to see what magic she can create for my wedding day!”

Kilani & Jennie are uniquely loveable. If you know them, you know exactly what I’m talking about. They are the kind of couple that I grow to enjoy more and more with each interaction we share. Kilani reached out during my 10 day Valentine’s Tell Me Why + Make Me Cry campaign (offering $1,000 wedding photography vouchers to 10 lucky couples). All they had to do for a chance to win was tell me their love story.

How Kilani wrote about her love for Jennie honestly speaks volumes.

“Jennie hasn’t always had things easy… She moved states to be with the person she thought she was going to marry only to have her heart crushed a month before the wedding. After that, she spent 4 long years trying to move back to Dallas to be with her family. She saved up enough money to move only to be rushed in to emergency surgery. Then I fell in to her world. Ever since we met, I knew she was the one.”

You know how something can be so sweet it kind of makes you sick to your stomach…? Apparently I’m not the only one who feels that way about these two. Early on, Kilani warned me that their friends often find it annoying how incredibly perfect they are together. #relationshipgoals

Through the eye-opening Tell Me Why + Make Me Cry campaign, I quickly realized how many couples overcame incredible obstacles to find each other. Kilani went on to say “We don’t get to see each other much but when we do, she tries her hardest to make those moments magical. [Jennie] is the most caring, the most lovable woman I have ever met. She always puts her friends and family before herself. I only wish I could be half the woman she is. She is working 2 jobs to try and give me the wedding I want. Working 65+ hours a week.”

“We have looked at photography packages with other photographers but I didn’t realize how expensive it was… I’m praying that I could win this package for my beautiful bride and give her peace of mind knowing that she won’t have to break her back to pay for one more thing for this wedding.”

Many engaged couples aren’t initially prepared for increasing costs attributed to weddings these days. But let me tell you what – they are out there working hard, picking up extra shifts, and saving as much as they can to make their dream wedding possible. And at the end of the day, an unforgettable wedding depends very little on the setting, the dress, or the flowers… it’s really about sharing that time celebrating your love with your favorite people in the world.

But, dude. When it all comes together… after working your buns off – it feels pretty damn nice.

Giving a $1,000 wedding photography voucher to these two was a friggin’ no-brainer. After my first call with Kilani, it was pretty much a match made in heaven (and now I feel like the luckiest photographer in the world!).

Congratulations to you, Kilani & Jennie! You have something very special in each other. You’re working so diligently to plan a wedding that’s everything you’ve ever dreamed of (and it’s inspiring to watch it all come together!). It’s my greatest honor to be trusted with your wedding photos, I can’t wait to meet all of your closest friends and family, and… who knows – maybe you can help me teach other couples how to accomplish what you have! #bestweddingever

So happy for you,
xoxo Krystal
